Matthew, 20 years old, was a resident of Loveland Ohio and graduated from Milford High School in 2007. He was a Junior at Ohio University majoring in Pre-med, a recipient of the Gateway Excellence Scholarship. Matt was the loving son of Nelson and Susan Smith, caring brother of Amy Smith and a beloved friend to many. It was a sad day when we lost him, but even in death, Matt chose the gift of life by being an organ and tissue donor. Matthew was blessed with an intelligent mind and a wide variety of interests and talents. He loved music and played the piano, saxophone, guitar, bells and drums. He enjoyed athletics and was currently in a boxing club. He played recreational, select and high school soccer. Matthew was on the Academic Quiz Team for three years and received his high school’s Eagle Award his senior year. Matthew embraced every aspect of life with enthusiasm and joy. He sought to learn, create, contemplate and challenge himself. He loved his friends and family deeply and with an open heart. We have so enjoyed his wonderful sense of humor and deep, heart-felt laugh. We are rich with memories and will keep him in our hearts forever knowing we are safe with him watching us from above.
